Hawaii's strongest earthquake in two decades had little impact on tourism, though Big Island Mayor Harry Kim estimated that as many as 3,000 people were evacuated from three hotels in the big island. Some evacuees were taken to a gymnasium.

The impact on tourism was limited in part because this is the low season. Airports continued to operate after the weekend quake though some flights were cancelled.

Most hotels returned almost immediately to regular operations.

The 6.6 magnitude quake caused some blackouts and landslides, but there were no reports of fatalities. Big Island officials said a survey of emergency rooms showed 25 people suffered minor injuries.

Can Travlers Expect Waht The Name Say?
How much of a value do hotel-goers get? It's apparently seldom been quantified before, but PricewaterhouseCoopers now has an answer: quite a bit.

Travel agents will tell you that making your cruise ship reservation early can net you big discounts. Most cruise lines offer this incentive to fill the ships with reliable vacationers, and determine if they have enough passengers. On the other hand, last minute cruising can also offer a bunch of discounts.

Last minute cruises can be risky. It's possible that early bird cruisers can fill the ship and leave no space for those hoping for last minute tickets. If you are able to book a last minute deal and you live far away from the airport and seaport, your transportation fares can be very costly. Typically, airline tickets booked last minute tend to be much more expensive than those purchased in advance.
