The Seibu Group of Japan is selling the Maui Prince Hotel, two 18-hole golf courses and land zoned for development at Makena.
The 310-room Maui Prince Hotel opened in 1986. In a statement, Prince Resorts Hawaii said Seibu is "taking advantage of Hawaii's booming real estate market" by selling the hotel, golf courses and land that comprise the Makena Resort at South Maui. The price was not listed. Seibu has owned the 1,800-acre resort more than 30 years and played a major role in developing the Makena area. The company is part of a financially troubled Japanese conglomerate and tourism industry observers have been expecting a sale of some of its Hawaii assets for the past two years. |

Upstart Airline To Allow Smoking A German business man has a dream. A dream of smoke filled cabins where nicotine would flow like milk and honey. Is this guy really serious? Apparently he is and he is planning on launching an airline that would not have any smoking restrictions. Alexander Schoppmann believes that smokers would be willing to pay a premium to be able to fly and enjoy their smokes. He claims that many smokers are like himself and have avoided long flights due to nicotine denial. The new airline will inaugurate service between Dusseldorf and Tokyo, a long-haul flight that can send many chain smokers into withdrawal. Besides having the entire plane as a smoking section, passengers will be pampered with other luxuries to help justify the fare.
Years ago smokers used to relegated to the back of the plane and now smoking is banned on all international and domestic flights. Discuss travel news and reviews on our Travelers Forums. |
